The Colonnade Hotel opened in 1971 as an independent hotel in the heart of Boston's Back Bay. Over the past 35 years, the hotel has proudly met the needs of sophisticated travelers from all over the world. During that time, neither the hotel's commitment to excellence nor its ownership has changed - perhaps the secret of The Colonnade's success.
The keeper of The Colonnade's flame is owner Ronald Druker, whose father Bertram built the hotel and whose grandfather John founded the twin Braemore and Kenmore hotels which stood in Boston's old Governor's Square, an area of the city later named Kenmore Square in honor of the landmark hotel. John immigrated to Boston from Scotland (via Montreal) in the early days of the 20th Century, establishing The Druker Company, one of the city's most respected real estate firms. Today, Ronald leads the venerable company, which received the prestigious Award for Excellence from the Urban Institute for the Heritage on the Garden mixed-use development.
The hotel quickly established a reputation for excellence that spread throughout country and even overseas. Through the years, The Colonnade Hotel has attracted such luminaries from the worlds of politics, entertainment, and sports such as Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Gerald Ford, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Shirley MacLaine, Harry Connick Jr., Val Kilmer, Matt Damon, Vanessa Williams, Mel Torme, Bill Russell, and Larry Bird.
In January 1990, The Colonnade Hotel was invited to become a member of the Groupe des Hotels Concorde, an organization of more than 70 prestigious hotels from around the globe. In 1993, The Colonnade Hotel became a member of Summit International Hotels, a collection of over 160 independent luxury hotels that offer travelers VIP memberships.
