BOSTON
The Colonnade Hotel
As true of New York's hip Gansevoort, there is a see-and-be-seen quotient around this pool, 11 stories above downtown Boston. In contrast to the day's business demands, a festive air prevails, with a small band playing poolside on summer evenings. Champagne is the accompaniment of choice, preferably sipped while stretched out on a chaise. Tables are topped with smart cobalt-blue umbrellas. The hotel completed a $20 million renovation in April now strikes a note of cosy modernism.
